Meet author Ellen Ryan and illustrator Conor Merriman as they awaken the spirits of the ancient heroes of Ireland.
How do you become a hero? By battling demons, conquering your fears, or simply finding the courage to be yourself, the ancient heroes of Ireland can teach us a thing or two about what it really means to be a hero.
Come along and meet author Ellen Ryan and illustrator Conor Merriman as they awaken the spirits of storied gods and champions like Fer Maisse, a monster slayer who gives up glory to become a healer, and Cnú Deróil, who overcomes bullies with his musical talent. From hurlers to warriors, academics to activists, Gods Don’t Cry brings new life to Ireland’s oldest stories and challenges the modern notion of what bravery can be.
Ellen Ryan’s debut book, Girls Who Slay Monsters: Daring Tales of Ireland’s Forgotten Goddesses won both the Children’s Books Ireland KPMG Book of the Year Award and the Children’s Books Ireland KPMG Junior Juries Award, 2023.
Conor Merriman is an award-winning designer and illustrator who specialises in narrative world-building through illustration, inspired by folklore, fantasy and pop culture.
