Grim magical realism and macabre mystery run rampant in the first novel to be translated into English from one of Argentina’s literary superstars.
“The most exciting discovery I’ve made in fiction for some time.”
– Kazuo Ishiguro
A finalist for the International Booker Prize, the Kirkus Prize, and the Ray Bradbury Prize for Science Fiction, Fantasy & Speculative Fiction, Mariana Enriquez has firmly established herself as a contemporary literary superstar. Her collections Things We Lost in the Fire and The Dangers of Smoking in Bed have been hailed as ‘propulsive and mesmerizing’ (The New York Times) and ‘insidiously absorbing’ (Kirkus Reviews).
Moving back and forth in time, from London in the 1960s to the brutal years of Argentina’s military dictatorship, Our Share of Night is equal parts family drama, ghost story, and gore horror.
Following the devastating death of his mother, Gaspar and his father set out on a road trip to her ancestral home, only to be confronted with the terrifying legacy she’s left behind for them – a family called the Order that commits unspeakable acts in the search for immortality. Brimming with wickedness and supernatural intrigue, this deep dark coming-of-age horror show is a wild meditation on the darkest of human impulses and the lengths to which a parent will go for their child.
Macabre, mysterious, and utterly mesmerising, Enriquez’s first novel to be translated into English is not to be missed for fans of the strange and surreal.
