‘Startling, engrossing, darkly playful.’
— Roddy Doyle
In a dark and haunting debut novel, acclaimed editor and essayist turns her attention to isolation, island life, and the mysteries of faith and the natural world.
Set against the backdrop of a rugged and wild island, Hagstone tells the story of Nell, an artist who takes inspiration from the surrounding natural beauty. But when she finds herself drawn into the mysterious world of the island’s all-women commune and the strange murmurings that echo through the land, she finds herself with more questions than answers.
Well known for her work as a journalist, essayist, and editor, this foray into fiction is as much an exploration of the feminine as it is an unveiling of the darker aspects of human nature.
