International Literature Festival Dublin (ILFD) is now seeking proposals for its 2024 programme edition responding to the theme of ‘Words Upside Down’. When the foundation of our very existence is constantly in flux, the world around us twisting, turning and changing at the speed of light, how do we keep up? With a world of information – both true and false – at our fingertips, how do we decode and decipher messages, avoid the temptation of the doomscroll, and reawaken our collective and individual imaginations?
For this year’s open call, ILFD invites artists, creative practitioners and collectives from all arts backgrounds to submit event proposals responding to the theme and suitable for presentation at ILFD’s new tented literary village in one of Dublin City’s finest parks, Merrion Square.
We encourage proposals which embrace curiosity and wonder, spark conversation or new ways of listening. This year, we are especially interested in work that will bring its audience in close contact with either the natural or the artificial world (or both). We are looking for work that will thrill, challenge, and empower audiences; above all, we welcome concepts that break away from traditional literary event format.
We see the festival as a resource for artists and it is adaptable to their particular needs. In previous years, artists have used the festival as an opportunity to :
We are only able to accept applications from artists based on the island of Ireland. We welcome proposals which cater for audiences ages 16+. Successful applicants will be supported by the festival team to bring their ideas to life during this year’s programme which will be presented in Dublin City’s Merrion Square Park, running 17 – 26 May 2024.
Deadline for applications is Monday 11th of March, 5pm.

Applicants must be based in Ireland
The content of the proposal must be presented during the festival dates
The festival will provide technical and curatorial support. They expect that the artist/author is able to work independently and has a clear plan for the implementation of their proposal, with production developed prior to the event.
The festival will take care of the promotion and marketing of the event.
The festival will provide access to its technical equipment (projectors, speakers, media players, etc)
A maximum of €500 – €1000 per project proposal will be available
