International Literature Festival Dublin is delighted to welcome filmmaker, writer and proclaimer of nature’s obscenity Werner Herzog for the 2017 festival.

Born in 1942, Werner Herzog was raised in a Bavarian village before studying German Literature and History in Munich and Pittsburgh. He made his first film aged 19, and since then has produced, written, and directed 70 films including the celebrated Encounters at the End of the World (2007), Grizzly Man (2005), Fitzcarraldo (1982) for which he won Best Director at Cannes Film Festival, and The Enigma of Kaspar Hauser (1972).

The critically acclaimed film marvel currently has 50 awards to his name. Time Magazine named him as one of the 100 most influential people on the planet in 2009.

Don’t miss this rare opportunity to spend an evening with contemporary cinema’s challenging, controversial and eternally fascinating cult hero.
