Comic creator and illustrator Aoife Dooley knows just how hard it is to find your voice when practically everyone around you is telling you to be quiet. Her Frankie graphic novel series is inspired by her own experience of being autistic and learning to understand herself.
Frankie and her best friend Sam are both different, and now they’re starting secondary school. The new rules are tough, especially the ones about talking – or not talking! Frankie talks to cope and she’s not sure how she’ll manage with all this silence. Until the Battle of the Bands competition comes along, and with it, the chance to find her own unique voice.
Aoife Dooley is an award-winning illustrator, author, and comedian, as well as a graphic designer and public speaker. In 2018, at the age of 27, Aoife was diagnosed as Autistic. Since then, she has chosen to share her experiences with audiences across the country, creating conversations about Autism and how her diagnosis has helped her begin to truly understand herself. Finding My Voice is the sequel to the acclaimed Frankie’s World from 2020.
