The 2022 Award winner will be chosen from a diverse and international shortlist.
Will it be Remote Sympathy by Catherine Chidgey, a harrowing yet ultimately hopeful new chapter of Holocaust literature; David Diop’s At Night All Blood is Black, translated by Anna Moschovakis, an intense and mesmerising story about the horrors of conflict, from the perspective of a young West African conscript in the Great War; The Death of Vivek Oji by Akwaeke Emezi, a tale of family, identity, and transcendence set in contemporary Nigeria; Danielle McLaughlin’s The Art of Falling, where one woman’s attempt to come to terms with a personal betrayal becomes a meditation on the capacity for art to heal the human soul; Noopiming: The Cure for White Ladies by Leanne Betasamosake Simpson, a poetic hymn to the culture of Anishinaabeg people and the fragility of the natural world; Alice Zeniter’s The Art of Losing, translated by Frank Wynne, an intergenerational tale of family and displacement, set in 1950s Algeria and contemporary France.
Both the Dublin Literary Award and International Literature Festival Dublin are major cultural initiatives of Dublin City Council. The award is worth €100,000 to the winner, and if the winning book is an English translation, €75,000 is awarded to the author and €25,000 to the translator.
