‘Heartbreak, wistfulness, cracking dialogue . . . This is Tóibín at his best.’

One of Ireland’s finest returns to the world of the prize-winning novel Brooklyn in a stunning sequel full of longing, reconnection, and the joy of love rediscovered.
Always a festival favourite, current Laureate for Irish Fiction and acclaimed author Colm Tóibín joins us for the inaugural event celebrating his new book, Long Island. The much-anticipated sequel to Brooklyn, this follow up sees protagonist Eilis, twenty years married and happily settled in the suburbs, turn back towards Ireland once more.
Colm will reunite with fellow writer Belinda McKeon – who last discussed the novel as part of The Paris Review’s infamous ‘The Art of Fiction’ series – for a conversation on work and adaptations, living between Ireland and New York, and what’s next on the horizon. Don’t miss this memorable evening with one of our national treasures.
Colm Tóibín is the author of 11 novels including The Master, The Testament of Mary, Nora Webster, House of Names and The Magician. His work has been shortlisted for The Booker Prize three times, has won the Costa Novel Award and the Dublin Literary Award. He has also published two collections of stories and many works of non-fiction.
