Join us for a zine making workshop and conversations about mediums of cultural expression.

Zines are a wonderful way to publish art, poems, writing, musings – imagine a bricolage of images, texts, and messages and your zine is already coming to life! This publishing medium is tactile, vernacular, and accessible. The workshop will explore zine making as a means of storytelling, self-expression and cultural and political criticism through collage, drawing, and writing.

Participants will experience an immersive and practical introduction to zine making, learning by doing in order to produce a zine “dummy”, the handmade master copy of the publication. We’ll use images from mobile phones, collage text and images from newspapers and magazines, and we’ll write and draw to create a zine master copy. Each participant will leave equipped to be a cultural pamphleteer – bring your manifesto to the table!

Brass Neck Press is a small press run by artist Cóilín O’Connell. It is a platform for producing and distributing art zines, both by Cóilín and other artists. The press is best known for its serial publication Drain Brain, a contemporary culture fanzine that publishes writing, art and illustration by artists, musicians, writers, and dilettantes. It has also published anthologies of toilet graffiti, sci-fi comics, and mushroom foraging guides.
