Irish became an official and working language of the EU in 2007. Since then, there has been a derogation in place on its full use in the European institutions. The derogation is being phased out on an incremental basis between now and 2021. Aodhán Mac Cormaic outlines the initiatives being undertaken at both a national and an EU level in the areas of translation, automated translation, law and terminology aimed at bring this process to a successful conclusion.
