Dublin Writers Festival and Children’s Books Ireland have brought together some of Europe’s most prolific illustrators to help you find out more about their varied routes into illustration. Featuring our Get Drawn In resident illustrators and picturebook makers Hervé Tullet (France), Sarah McIntyre (England), Niamh Sharkey (Laureate na nÓg, Ireland) and also Sara Fanelli (Italy), expect engaging and informative insights into how each of them forged careers in the industry. Examining their unique creative journeys, with insight into all aspects of their working lives, this session is a must for professional and aspiring illustrators alike. Tickets are free but booking is required via Tel 01 6707788 or boxoffice@ark.ie French picture book maker Hervé Tullet is multi-award winning and has exhibited widely internationally, including in Tate Modern. He has published over 60 books, which have been translated into over 25 languages, and include the innovative “The Game of..” series, I am Blop, The Five Senses, The Book with Hole and Press Here amongst many others. Niamh Sharkey is the current Laureate na nÓg 2012-2014. Among her awards are Mother Goose award and The Bisto Book of the Year. Her many publications include: Irish Legends for the Very Young, Tales of Wisdom and Wonder, The Ravenous Beast, Santasaurus, I’m a Happy Hugglewug, On the Road with Mavis and Marge. Niamh is the creator and executive producer of Disney Junior’s animated preschool television series Henry Hugglemonster. Illustrator and writer Sarah McIntyre makes picture books and comics with three other artists in an old police station in London. Born in Seattle, Sara moved to London, ran an art gallery, and went on to study Illustration at Camberwell College of Art. She has won numerous awards for her books which include You Can’t Scare a Princess, When Titus Took The Train, Morris the Mankiest Monster, Vern and Lettuce and her most recent You Can’t Eat a Princess. Born in Italy, artistically trained in Britain, Sara Fanelli is one of the new generation of experimental children’s book illustrators. She has twice been the overall winner of the Victoria and Albert Museum Illustration Award. Her many publications include The Onion’s Great Escape, Sometimes I think Sometimes I am, Pinocchio, First Flight, Dear Diary, My Map Book.
