Comedian, podcaster and history presenter Iszi Lawrence takes you on a swashbuckling adventure through history to meet the real pirates of the Caribbean. 

Picture this – the year is 1718, pirate ships sail the oceans and brutal slave masters control the plantations. Eleven-year-old Abigail Buckler lives with her father in the Caribbean where her fine clothes and rules of civilised society are restrictive, to say the least. But when pirates attack, Abigail’s life changes forever and her old certainties about right and wrong, good and bad start to unravel. Maybe Abigail doesn’t have to be so ladylike after all…

Iszi Lawrence is a comedian, podcaster and history presenter, and author of historical adventures The Unstoppable Letty Pegg and Billie Swift Takes Flight. She is the co-host of BBC Radio 4’s Making History and hosts a number of podcasts including the British Museum Membercast.
