What happens when the most creative minds of our generation are asked to re-think the climate emergency?

As part of Back to Earth, the Serpentine’s major environmental programme, Hans Ulrich Obrist together with Kostas Stasinopoulos approached 140 artists, scientists, architects, filmmakers and more to contribute to a do-it-yourself guide on how to shape a more ecological and equitable future. The result is 140 Artists’ Ideas for Planet Earth: a fascinating compendium of recipes, sketches, photographs, essays, spells, and instructions that asks us to engage with climate emergency in new and imaginative ways in our daily lives.

Joining him for this exclusive live discussion are Manthia Diawara, a Malian writer, filmmaker and cultural theorist, currently working on a film for Back To Earth about climate change and its effects on the fishing community of Yene, Senegal, and Maya Lin, an architect and installation artist who this month unveiled Ghost Forest in New York’s Madison Square Park: an installation of 49 dead cedar trees that highlights the effect of climate change on forests.
