Two exciting voices in Irish fiction discuss the heartbreak and hope of modern life, and what lies beneath the surface when writing women.
Acclaimed novelist and playwright Lucy Caldwell’s new short story collection Intimacies exquisitely charts the steps and missteps of young women trying to find their place in the world. Her stories of love, loss and exile, new beginnings and lives lived away from ‘home’ also includes other women who could be guiding lights, such as Monica Lewinsky and Sinéad O’Connor. Louise Kennedy’s debut collection of stories, The End of the World is a Cul de Sac, depicts the harsh truths of modern Ireland, and the weight of its social history, on women from different walks of life.
The authors will be in conversation with journalist and author Anna Carey.
I adored these downbeat, stirring, disconcerting, punchy, touching, believable short stories, so skilfully and beautifully executed” – Joseph O’Connor.
