In this special event, a major novelist celebrates and explores a key work by a favourite author. Join Paul Harding for an intimate and in-depth discussion of his selected book, its wider themes and its influence on them as writer (and reader).
Paul Harding — the Pulitzer Prize-winning US author of Tinkers (2010) — discusses Henry James’s The Aspern Papers. Inspired by the story of one of Byron’s forgotten mistresses from whom an American traveller contrives to appropriate ‘literary remains’, James’s 1888 novella is strikingly contemporary in its themes, touching on the cult of literary celebrity and a public figure’s right to personal privacy.
