Learn the ins and outs of the brief and witty realm of flash fiction, from ideation to execution. Then, apply your knowledge by composing your own flash piece and workshopping it LIVE with the group.

In Flash Fiction Live Writing, F(r)iction’s Editor-in-Chief, Dani Hedlund, will lead attendees through the short, but very meaningful realm of flash fiction (stories of 1,000 words or fewer). We’ll explore the dos and don’ts of this short form style, dive deep into what makes a powerful—and potent—flash fiction piece, and how the same rules can be applied to longer work.

Then attendees will each have an opportunity to craft their own flash fiction story, based on a story prompt, after which the group will edit and revise in a live, friendly, free-flowing workshop setting.

Dani Hedlund – Founder, CEO, & Editor-in-Chief Pronouns: she/her
After the publication of her first novel at the age of eighteen, Dani Hedlund founded the international literary nonprofit Brink Literacy Project (formerly Tethered by Letters). Over the course of the last decade, Brink has grown into one of the largest independently-funded literary nonprofits in the nation, with bases across the US, UK, and Southeast Asia. She is also the founder and Editor-in-Chief of F(r)iction, an art and literature collection specializing in boundary-defying work. Since its inception in 2015, F(r)iction has risen to critical acclaim, becoming one of the fastest growing literary journals in the world. In her ever-elusive free time, Dani lectures about the ins and outs of the publishing industry, writes very weird fiction, and runs a strange little board game company called Bad Hipster Games.
