Artist Aleana Egan shares ideas about her practice alongside festival writer-in-residence Tomoka Shibasaki, who reads from her work. Aleana Egan is currently exhibiting in staring forms, a Temple Bar Gallery + Studios group show that brings together four artistic practices that engage with spaces, interiority, literature and the Japanese influence on art. Her work hints at untold narratives, allowing the viewer to intuitively perceive the artist’s own musings. Similarly, Shibasaki’s novel Spring Garden is centred on a condemned apartment block, whose inhabitants obsess about the idealized interior and atmosphere of the ‘sky blue house’ in their neighbourhood. Written with a photographic clarity, the novel opens up questions about heritage and the ephemeral nature of urban space.

staring forms runs at Temple Bar Gallery + Studios: 03 May - 28 June 2019

Presented in association with Temple Bar Gallery & Studios and EU-Japan Fest Japan Committee
